Naming rights to the Moxie Cinebar up for grabs on eBay

It's the story of the millenium*! Dan and Nicole Chilton are opening an art-house cinema in Springfield, Missouri, and have run into financial difficulties. So what to do? Sell your body? Sell your soul? Or sell naming rights to the concessions stand? You guessed it... prostitution and working for the devil are out, and sponsorship is in. For a starting price of only $1USD you have the chance to have the Cinebar named after you. I can just see it now... for only $99.99 I could have, "The Moxie Cinema presents popcorn and soda at the Surferbill Cinebar!". Or maybe not. Hopefully they raise the requisite $10,000 or even more. Good luck to them, and good luck to you bidding in the auction!

Press Release

Springfield, MO, April 6, 2005: Moxie Cinema, opening later this spring, is auctioning off the naming rights to the Concession Bar to the highest bidder on Ebay. The winning bidder will reserve the right to have the Concession Bar named after themselves or their corporation for the first year of operation. The auction lasts ten days, starting on April 7 and ending April 17, 2005. A link to the auction is available at http://www.moxiecinema.com.

Due to unforeseen building costs, the owners of Moxie Cinema need to raise additional revenue before they are able to open. “It’s not a conventional way to raise money,” owner Dan Chilton says. “But then again, we’re not necessarily a conventional movie theater.”

Located downtown at 408 West Walnut Street, Moxie Cinema’s mission is to create a unique and inviting venue for the exhibition of smaller, lesser-known films that have traditionally been unattainable in the Springfield market. By providing intriguing film series and offering a cinematic experience that differentiates itself from the typical multiplex affair, the Moxie will create a one-of-a-kind service that will benefit the downtown community along with the rest of the metropolitan area.
