Why You Can't Get Your Hands on a Wii

Why You Can't Get Your Hands on a Wii: "The Nintendo console's broad appeal -- and a maxed-out supply chain that can't be ramped up to meet holiday demands -- is making it almost impossible to snag a Wii at normal retail outlets."

Smart Smoke Detector Means No More False Alarms

"The next generation of smoke detectors could distinguish between the smell of overdone toast and your house burning down".

I so need this.

ID profiles worth far more than credit card details to crooks

"Gunter Ollmann, a security researcher in the ISS security division of IBM, discovered that a list of 2,000 credit card details (including CVV2 codes and magstripe data) is worth about the same as 40 standard identities (ie name, address, phone number, social security number, and date of birth)."

How To View Your Google Calendar In Outlook 2007

I've been looking for this since I started using Google Calendar, and now with Office 2007 you can easily view your Google calendar in Outlook.

Outlook calls it an Internet Calendar, and uses the iCal link in your Google Calendar Settings.
  1. Log on to your Google Calendar account.
  2. In the left column, under Calendars, click the arrow button next to the calendar that you want to add to Outlook as an Internet Calendar Subscription.
  3. Select Calendar settings.
  4. Under Private Address, click ICAL.
  5. Select the Internet Web address that appears, and then press CTRL+C to copy the selected text to the Windows clipboard.
Note:Do not click the link. If you click the link, the calendar will be opened in Outlook as a Calendar Snapshot which is not updated.
  6. In Outlook, on the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
  7. On the Internet Calendars tab, click New.
  8. Paste the Internet Web address you copied in step 5, by pressing CTRL+V.
  9. Click Add.
  10. In the Folder Name box, type the name of the calendar as you want it to appear in Outlook, and then click OK.
Viewing your Outlook Calendar in Google Calendar is still only possible via import/export - the instructions are there if you want to put yourself through it, but I'll keep waiting until there's a dynamic solution.

Kindle: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device

Amazon is looking to bring reading to the next level, with the Kindle. It's a "wireless reading device", capable of downloading fresh content from the web using EVDO push technology. You don't need a computer, there's no syncing up data, and the battery is replaceable.

It's black and white, but then so are most books and newspapers. Oh, and it provides free access to Wikipedia. What more could you want?

Animal rights activist hit with RIPA key decrypt demand

"An animal rights activist has been ordered to hand over her encryption keys to the authorities. Section Three of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) came into force at the start in October 2007, seven years after the original legislation passed through parliament. Intended primarily to deal with terror suspects, it allows police to demand encryption keys or provide a clear text transcript of encrypted text."

There's a difference between stopping terrorism and being nosey. Who didn't know this would be abused?
